5. English Language Proficiency Standards
The state of Missouri belongs to the WIDA consortium – a group of 36 states that share common standards and assessments. The WIDA Consortium’s English Language Proficiency standards for ELLs include:
Social and Instructional Language
The Language of Language Arts
The Language of Mathematics
The Language of Science
The Language of Social Studies

6. Students are assessed every year with a test called ACCESS
Students are assessed every year with a test called ACCESS. This tests the student’s listening comprehension, speaking ability, reading, and writing skills. The parents receive a report like the one below that shows the progress the student has made.

8. Some factors that will determine how quickly a student learns another language are:
*Similarity of L1 to L2
*Proficiency and/or literacy in L1 Language
*Prior schooling
*Motivation
*PARENTAL EXPECTATIONS

9. What you can do at home to help your child:
