Recrystallization Important method of purification for solid organic compounds. The substance to be purified is dissolved in a heated solvent. The saturated solution is allowed to cool and a regular array of crystals will begin to form, leaving any impurities in solution. The crystals are rinsed with cold solvent to remove any adhering impurities. The crystals are then dried.
