16 Instructional Focus SY2018-19
We will continue supporting students’ abilities to read rigorous text closely and identify evidence for support in argumentative tasks. Students will develop the skill of using specific evidence to support arguments in discussion, which will then transfer to strong writing across all disciplines, and develop the communication and critical thinking skills that support college and career readiness. We will provide access to challenging opportunities to all students and help them advocate for themselves as they learn who and how they learn.

17 Instructional Focus SY2018-19
Goal 1: Literacy Focus Across Content Areas Understanding the task on all assessments. Reading closely to identify evidence to create a claim Developing/explaining the evidence to support a claim

18 Instructional Focus SY2018-19
Goal 2: Engaging Students in Learning to Promote an Intellectually Active Environment for Learning Challenging Content Using questioning and discussion techniques to cause students to think and reflect, deepening understanding. FHHS will further develop student-generated questions to increase critical thinking. Building thinkers and problem solvers who are curious about their world and will persevere to learn and contribute to a positive and productive society. Using assessment as an integral part of instruction to monitor student learning and promote student self-assessment.

19 Programming @ FHHS 3 Sessions 2nd = 8:10am to 2:50pm
1st = 7:20am to 2:00pm 2nd = 8:10am to 2:50pm 3rd = 9:00am to 3:40pm

20 Programming @ FHHS All students have 7 periods of instruction + lunch
All students grades 9-11 have the 4 core: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies + Physical Education Students in grades 9-11: 2 electives or 1 language and 1 elective

21 FHHS All seniors have English, Social Studies, Physical Education/Health + 4 additional courses per need/interest Eligible seniors may have up to 2 elective courses online (Edgenuity) that appear on program 12th & 13th period or a period before or after session (e.g. period 1 if 2-9 session) Eligible seniors will participate in Fort Shadowing

22 Programming @ FHHS FHHS Obligation:
Provide classes that students need to stay on track to graduate in 4 years All students need minimum of 44 credits in specific content areas: e.g. 8 in English, 8 in SS, 6 in math, 6 in science, etc. All students need to pass minimum of 5 Regents exams

23 Programming @ FHHS FHHS Obligation:
Provide classes on the appropriate level e.g. 2-term math vs 3 term math aligned with IEP, honors level, special programs, etc.)

24 Programming @ FHHS Equalization per UFT Contract:
Maximum # of students in an academic class = 34 Maximum # of students in a PE or music class = 50 Deadline to achieve Equalization = 9/21/18

25 FHHS Session preferences cannot be accommodated. We understand that a session of 1-8 vs 2-9 may be helpful to family arrangements or travel with a sibling, but such adjustments necessitate disruptions to multiple student programs. We need to finalize programs by September 21st so students settle into schedules, teachers and learning for the year. Annualized – students stay with same teacher for year – instruction continues after Term 1.
