Boyle’s Law Will P., Ian A., Luana R., Jack H.

2 WHat Is It? Boyle’s law states that the volume of a given mass of gas (V) is inversely proportional to its absolute pressure (P), provided the temperature of the gas (T) remains constant. More volume equals less pressure. Boyle’s law is the relationship between pressure and volume. This is an inverse mathematical relationship, as one quantity goes up in the value, the other goes down.

4 Relations with CHem/REal World Examples
Pushing in the plunger of a plugged-up syringe decreases the volume of air trapped under the plunger. When you squeeze a balloon, you decrease the volume which increases the pressure until the balloon pops.

5 MS. SCHOLLE IS AMAZING

7 Practice Problems Find the missing variable.
1) Initial P = 27 psi Initial V = 1378 cm3 Final P = 30 2) Initial V = 300 Cm3 Initial P = Final V = 1,800 3)Initial V = 2.0L Initial P = 3 kPa Final P= 0.5 kPa

8 ANSWER KEY Final V = Final P = 7.5 Final V = 12
