We’re lucky to live in a country where schools have wonderful things like classroom decoration, iPads and of course, your teacher! Other countries are not so lucky. Today we will learn about a war in a country called Yemen. The fighting has meant many schools are unsafe or badly damaged, like this one on the left. 7 What is happening in Yemen?
©VotesForSchools2018 What is happening in Yemen? Yemen Yemen is a country in the Middle East, close to Saudi Arabia and Africa. Images: 1 - 2 - Yemen is in the middle of a civil war. This is when two sides inside a country are fighting for control. Lots of people in Yemen need help. The war means that finding food is difficult, and many homes have been destroyed.

©VotesForSchools2018 What is happening in Yemen? Many children have left their homes because of the fighting. They are living in tents and some are learning in tents too. Others are forced to stay at home because their school is destroyed. Pair Talk (2 mins) How would you feel if you couldn’t go to school? ©VotesForSchools2018 How does war change children’s lives? Dangerous: Not safe, able to cause harm. When there is war, food doesn’t get delivered because its dangerous to travel. Lots of farm land and buildings are also damaged, which can make it hard to grow food. People can get sick more easily, because the drinking water is not clean. War makes life very difficult and dangerous for children. I think keeping schools safe is the most important thing during a war. With your Class (3 min) Think about how important school is for children during a war.
