2 ©VotesForSchools2017 Feedback from: “Should you be able to refuse a school uniform if it conflicts with your beliefs?” The majority (that means most) of you across the country voted in favour of Chikayzea being allowed to keep his dreadlocks. Here’s what you had to say… “Religious clothing lets people stay strong in their belief which should be allowed.” – Bolton School “If we didn’t wear the same clothes (same uniform) some children would be treated differently.” – Turing House School Images: 1- 2- VotesforSchools website Remember! You have the chance for your comments to be shared around the country. Make sure to add a comment when you vote or ask your teacher to us with your feedback. We passed on your results and opinions to the school that Chikayzea goes to, and will be raising awareness about why this issue is so important to you.

6 Why are we talking about this?
©VotesForSchools2017 Why are we talking about this? 1 2 Food is a huge part of keeping healthy. If you don’t eat a balanced diet it can cause health problems. Stories about food are always in the news, whether they are about obesity or healthy eating. 3 Anyone can post on social media, speak on the TV or the internet about what we should and shouldn't eat, which makes being healthy very confusing… Images: 1- 2- 3- Class Question (2 mins) Look at these headlines. Do you think everything written about food is true? Obesity: being so extremely overweight that it effects your health in a bad way. This VoteTopic might be sensitive for some pupils, as it covers mental health. Go to the last slide if you need more information.

8 How do we know what food to eat?
©VotesForSchools2017 How do we know what food to eat? Pair Activity (3-6 mins) Healthy or unhealthy? Look at the drinks and discuss which ones are healthy or not. Order them from most healthy (5) to least healthy (1). 3. Click to reveal the order. It is really hard to tell what is healthy and unhealthy. Some foods or drinks have healthy things about them, like vitamins or calcium, but they also have less healthy things, like sugar. 5 Images: 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- References: 1- 4 2 1 3 Healthy: If something is healthy it means it is good for you and nutritious (it gives your body something it needs, like a vitamin!) Most of you probably had this order for your drinks, but people disagree all the time on what is healthy and what it not. The best advice is to try not to drink or eat too much of one thing, like fizzy drinks. Most foods are ok to eat in sensible amounts.

9 Group Discussion (2-4 mins)
©VotesForSchools2017 How do we know what food to eat? There are many things and people who make a difference to what you eat and drink… Doctors and nutritionists S&C: Can you think of anyone or anything else? 14 Can adverts change what we eat?
Class Activity (4-8 mins) Click the picture to watch a 30 second cereal advert. Write down the answers to these questions and click to reveal answers: 1. What is the catchphrase when they show the cereal box? 2. What two things do they say make Cheerios healthy? 3. Are the children in the advert happy or sad? Catchphrase: A group of words (sometimes sung!) that are designed to be catchy so you remember the food. “It’s good to say yes” Adverts have a catch phrase to try to help you remember the product they are selling. 2) Vitamin D and Calcium. Adverts tell you the positive things about the food, like the vitamins they contain, but never the negatives! 3) The children are smiling and eating the cereal. Adverts want to make you feel happy so you will buy their product! Image Source: 1- ©VotesForSchools2017

19 Is it ok to have a burger for breakfast? No
Burgers are really unhealthy and you should choose a healthier option for breakfast. Eating a burger once in a while is fine, but if you start every day with a burger you will probably not be very healthy. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and you should start healthily so you are not tempted to eat junk food all day. People eat too much meat already so eating meat for breakfast too seems over the top. If you start eating burgers all the time you may develop an addiction or a worrying problem with food. 20 Is it ok to have a burger for breakfast? Yes
A burger for breakfast won’t hurt you as long as you don’t do it every single day! Obsessing over being too healthy can lead to really serious illnesses so if you enjoy eating a burger once in a while, that’s fine! A burger can be part of a balanced and healthy diet as long as you make sure it doesn’t become a regular habit. There is a lot of confusing information on social media and the TV about what is good and bad for you, so you should follow advice from the people who know about health and they say that a burger is fine as long as it’s not eaten every day. Some other breakfasts are not as healthy as they seem. Image Source 1- Reference ©VotesForSchools2017
