Health-The well being of the body, mind and relationships with others.
Wellness -A broad concept of health that includes a combination of physical, mental and social health.

Two factors used to evaluate health include: Life expectancy – the number of years a person can expect to live.

Quality of Life – the overall satisfaction a person gets from life

Heredity – all the traits that are passed biologically from parent to child
Culture – the beliefs and patterns that are shared by a group of people and passed from generation to generation.

Sometimes behaviors become habits.
Behavior – the way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially towards others Of all the influences on your health, the decisions you make and the action you take have the greatest impact on your health. Sometimes behaviors become habits. Habits – behaviors that are repeated so often they often become almost automatic. Ex. – brushing your teeth, putting your shoes on

Negative Influences on health
Risk Factors=Any action or condition that increases the likelihood of injury, disease or threatens the health of others.

To help live a healthy life, set: Goals=something you aim to achieve that takes planning and work
Increase self esteem Long/short term goals 5 year plan

What makes a relationship healthy? Cooperation, Respect, Compromise, Honesty, Trust, Loyalty, Compliments, Communication

Communication – the process of sharing information, thoughts or feelings
Compromise- is the willingness of each person to give up something in order to reach an agreement. Example Cooperation- working together towards a common goal

3 Types of Communication Behaviors
Assertive – people who are able to stand up for themselves while expressing their feelings in a way that doesn’t threaten other people. Passive – people who hold back their true feelings and go along with others. Aggressive – people who express opinions and feelings in a way that may seem threatening or disrespectful to other people.

Cycle of Violence: Tension Building Stage – picks fights, threatens, isolates from others Violent Episode – uses force or a weapon, may destroy possessions Calm or Honeymoon Stage – asks for forgiveness, makes promises, denies abuse happened
