History of multiple sclerosis (MS)
The first actual case of MS was diagnosed in 1849 (T.J. Murray, “MS: History of a Disease”) Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot gave us the first signs and symptoms (T.J. Murray, “MS: History of a Disease”) MS means multiple areas of scarring (T.J. Murray, “MS: History of a Disease”)

People that are most affected
Early signs of multiple sclerosis usually begins between the ages of 20 and 40 years old (WebMD) Women are about twice as likely as men to develop MS (WebMD) The cultural group that is most affected is Caucasians with Northern European ancestry; other affected groups are African Americans, Asian Americans, and Hispanics (Stoppler et al)

Symptoms of MS pain in the back of their eyes, tremor, cramps fatigue,
sensory of pins and needles urinary retention blurred vision, anxiety or mood swings difficulty speaking

Affects on the nervous system
MS affects the brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves in your eyes It causes problems with vision, balance, muscle control, and other basic body functions Due to the damage the brain can't send signals through the body correctly (“MSSA”)

Causes of MS Your own immune system will target the central nervous symptom and causes damage to important cells and tissues (Stoppler et al)

Treatments to MS Physical therapy and medications that destroy (trying to end the immune system from attacking nerves) the immune system can help with symptoms and slow disease progression (MSSA) MS is uncurable (Stoppler et al)
