Expansion of suffrage to the electorate happened in five stages
Early 1800s: Eliminate religious tests, property & tax requirements
Post-Civil War: 15th Amendment
Early 1900s: 19th Amendment
1960s: Securing voting rights for African Americans
1971: 26th Amendment
