2 The Begining Born in Pisa, Italy February 15, 1564.
He was the oldest of seven children, whose father was a musician and wool trader. His father wanted him to practice medicine, but after four years of study at a Jesuit monastery, he became a monk.

3 Still the Begining His father quickly pulled him from the monastery and at the age of 17, the began to study medicine as his father wanted. Died in 1642

4 His Inventions

5 Carrer Teacher-both public and private, to individuals and at The University of Pisa as well as other locations. Author- His first book was written in 1586 titled “La Balancitta” or, The Little Balance”. Inventor- Invented the thermometer, the pendulum and made the telescope a viable astrological tool.

6 Innovations Pioneered the “Scientific Method”
Accepted Copernicus’ heliocentric conception, that the Sun was the center of the universe and the Earth rotated on an axis. Isaac Newton’s “First Law of Motion”, was based on Galileo’s “Law of Inertia”, which he discovered observing a pendulum.

7 The Inquisition Galileo was scrutinized for his beliefs and was ordered by the Roman Inquisition to abandon his Copernican thesis. The Church was appalled at the ideas shared by Galileo and Copernicus, as it did not coincide with the beliefs of the universe at the time.

8 The Inquisition Galileo renounced his writings and beliefs to the Holy Office, but did so under duress. Because of the condemnation, the scientific community in Italy was undermined and made little advancement in the field.

9 The End Galileo died January 8, 1642 in Arcetri.
He had gone blind, and the blindness was believed to be due to his observing the sun through a telescope.
