For the texts above and unseen poetry: Create a flow chart for how to tackle the questions in the time allowed; Look back over past papers/ practice questions and trying them over and over again under the time allowed in the exam. 2 English Literature English Literature has two papers:
Paper 1 Section A: ‘Macbeth’: they will be given an extract and must analyse the extract and reference, in detail, other parts of the play. 34 marks in total. Paper 2 Section B: ‘A Christmas Carol’: they will be given an extract and must analyse the extract and reference, in detail, other parts of the play. 30 marks in total. 1 hour 45 minutes for the paper. Paper 2 Section A: ‘Blood Brothers’: there is no extract for this exam; it is an essay-style question where they will analyse the play as a whole with a sharp focus on the question given. 34 marks in total. Paper 2 Section B: ‘Power and Conflict’: there are 15 poems to revise. One will be chosen as the named poem and they will compare it will one other poem; they must focus on context, language, structure, attitudes and how these elements focus on power and conflict. 30 marks in total. Paper 2 Section C: Unseen Poetry: they will have two questions. The first question will be to analyse one poem and the second question is to compare the two poems, joined with a theme, on language and structure. 32 marks in total 2 hours 15 minutes for the paper.

3 English Language For both papers he must:
Read a range of fiction and non-fiction texts to gain a wider understanding of elements of life in Britain across the 19th, 20th and 21st century; Explore writers’ ideas through language, structure, tone, first meanings and implied meanings: what do writers feel, imagine and think; Practise writing narratives and descriptions. Practise writing formal letters, articles, speeches, essays and leaflets. IAD 5min

4 English Language English Language has two papers:
Paper 1 Section A: reading of a fiction text. There are four questions: a list four things question, one on the writer’s use of language, one on the writer’s use of structure and a longer essay-style question where they demonstrate why a person would say something about the extract: focus on writer’s use of tone, language, structure, first meanings and implied meanings. 40 marks in total. Paper 2 Section B: write a descriptive piece of writing or a narrative based on a picture or statement used as a stimulus. 40 marks in total. 1 hour 45 minutes for the paper. Paper 2 Section A: a comparison of two non-fiction texts. There are four questions: a true or false question, compare the sources summarising explicit and implicit meanings, a language question on one source focusing on writer’s methods exploring how they want the reader to feel, imagine and think through various methods and a comparison of writers’ perspectives/viewpoints: how do they compare and contrast: what methods are used to convey their viewpoints and what valid inferred viewpoints/perspective are there. 40 marks in total. Paper 2 Section B: write about your own views on a non-fiction topic: formal letter, speech, article, essay or leaflet. 40 marks in total. 1 hours 45 minutes for the paper.
