The level of professionalism you have will directly impact your career. Helping you understand what employers will expect from you will help you succeed.

4 Professionalism: Looking a Little Deeper
Someone who is an expert or has great skill in a particular area. Reflects someone who has a vested interest in their field. Someone who takes responsibility for doing a good job. Someone who acts in a way that brings honor to others in their field.

5 Professionals take pride in who they are, how they interact with colleagues and how they represent their organization and field.

6 Employers Want People Who Are:
Personable Mature Positive and enthusiastic Willing to learn Honest Have a good attitude Are punctual and have good attendance Respectful of others and have good manners Take other’s needs into account Show initiative Have a neat and clean appearance

Know the company dress code Make sure your clothing is season appropriate Example: conservative work environment = business attire may be appropriate (suit) Skate/surf company = dressy casual (khakis, dress shoes, polo)

Clothing Must be clean and neat Reflect your personal style with tasteful accessories Wear clothing that covers your body appropriately. No shirts that show midriffs, shirts that are low cut or inappropriate undergarments. Appearance Cover tattoos Natural hair color Piercings should be limited to two earrings per ear Grooming Clean No perfume or cologne Washed and styled hair Appropriately cut finger nails Light or neutral make-up Trimmed facial hair
