The Chinese People helped kick start the economy with their businesses such as laundries, cafes, restaurants and illegal businesses Created many Jobs It was difficult for most businesses to move to a different area after their investments in the area Despite Torontonians desires the government decided to still demolish the neighbourhood

Please Proceed to the Area Indicated on this map! Nathan Phillips Square is an iconic and popular area in Toronto being right in front of New City Hall as well as having it’s own skating rink, but did you know that there were actually many different businesses that used to be on this ground. Elizabeth street, which was one of the main areas of Old China Town, used to go right through and connect to Queen street allowing for many different businesses to reside here, but were all eventually demolished in 1955 to build New City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square. This is one of the events that had ended the existence of Old China Town.
