& Council Policies

20 Be a registered Girl Scout with GSUSA
Who can Sell Cookies? Girls Must . . . Be a registered Girl Scout with GSUSA Are current with their financial obligations (no past due product program debt or outstanding checks) Have a signed Product Sale Program Parent Permission Form on file Who can sell Girl Scout Cookies? We all utilize the 5 Skills we work towards developing for our girls through the Girl Scout Cookie Program. This is where our Business Ethics comes into play. Girls must: Must be registered with GSUSA. Be current with all financial obligations. Have a signed Parent Permission Form from all adults helping her sell. From a Daisy in her first sale to an Ambassador in her last sale, all girls want to participate. Make it easy and fun for them to do so.

21 Where and How do girls sell cookies?
DIGITAL Smart Cookies mobile Smart Cookies direct DIRECT SELLING Booth Sales Door-to-Door Spirit of Nebraska - $4 / $5 NEKS/NWMO - $5 ORDER TAKING Smart Cookies/Online Marketing Booth Sales Smart Cookies e-cards Smart Cookies Direct Ship link GS of Colorado - $4 / $5 Covering 80 counties MO Heartland - $5 Eastern Oklahoma - $5 Today’s Kansas Heartland Girl Scouts are on the move all over our 80 counties and we want to do all we can to support their sales efforts. So WHERE and HOW they sell is vital. Out of respect for all of our Girl Scouts throughout the state, we ask that you respect each others communities for at least the first week of the sale. And when it comes to setting up booths, PLEASE contact the council PRIOR to moving into another community. Setting up a booth outside of our council boundaries is prohibited. And remember! No matter where the girls are selling or how…. Safety is our first concern during the Cookie Sale! ACTION : Have open discussion with participants about…… Safeguarding Girls – What adult supervision is needed for each Girl Scout? Safety tips for girls? Safeguarding Cookies – What do troops/girls need to do to store cookies safely? Safeguarding Money – What are best practices in safeguarding money? Adult Supervision Adults must monitor, supervise, and guide the cookie sale activities of all age levels. Adults must accompany Daisies, Brownies and Juniors when they are selling, order taking and delivering. Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors who participate in door-to-door sales must be supervised by an adult. Girls always use the buddy system. Safety practices for girls Use safe pedestrian practices, especially when crossing intersections, alleys, or walking in parking lots. Never enter someone’s home when selling or delivering cookies. Never approach a vehicle to sell to someone. Don’t sell door-to-door when it’s dark outside. Money Each year, we receive numerous reports of cookie money being lost or stolen. Please take precautions so this doesn’t happen to you. If money is stolen, the parent is still responsible for the money due. Keep money in a safe and secure place. Participate in the weekly management of inventory and money. Turn in money frequently. Order Taking- in a order taking sale, the sale starts with girls and their order cards hitting the streets and collecting orders. But even in a direct sale, order taking has a role! If a girl is currently out of one variety, she can continue to sell and take orders to be filled at a later date for the other cookies. Or she may follow up after 10 – 12 days of the sale and take orders for additional cookies, as her customers may have eaten their first purchase! NOTE: Order Cards will come with Initial Cookie Order pickup. Online Marketing – in addition to using the order card to collect orders, girls can expand their customer base by using the online marketing tools. Girls can send e-cards to their regular customers to collect orders and spend more “boots on the pavement” time finding new customers. She can also use the online cards to contact folks in the case of inclement weather! Online option also has a Smart Cookies Direct experience. Booth Sales – traditionally held outside grocery and other retail markets, this segment of the sale continues to be popular. We’ll get into more detail on our booth programs later in training, but we need to think outside the “cookie booth box”. What about a drive through booth or set up a booth at a food truck festival or other community event. Smart Cookies mobile – this easy to use free app available on both the iPhone and android platforms is a digital order card. Instead of a paper card, girls enter their order and customers get an confirmation of their order! Girl delivery is still necessary through the traditional Smart Cookies mobile app. Girls who took their orders last year on the mobile app sold an average of 7 more boxes per girl – a great way to boost sales! Smart Cookies Direct. This is a “direct to consumer” order process where the girl either sends out an ecard through Smart Cookies online or takes an order in Smart Cookies Direct through the mobile app. The customer orders, pays for and receives the cookies without money collection or delivery by the girl. HEADS UP FOR 2020: GSKH will be moving to $5 per pkg

How many packages did she sell, how many more does she need to fill orders, and how many more does she need. 26 Mystery Shoppers Exclusive Patch!
ACTION ITEM: Take this time to discuss proper booth etiquette. There are “mystery shoppers” among us! At any given time, someone unknown to us and the girls, could be visiting our cookie booth. Is the booth listed in Smart Cookies? By placing our booth location in the online system, we can be located on the Cookie Finder --- nationwide. Are we following the proper booth guidelines?

27 & Delivery & Storage Dangers to Consider Girl Order Card Cookies
Pickup Girls will be able to pickup cookies _____________________________. Watch for an /text/FB/etc from me Safety guidelines for storing cookies Store cookies out of reach of animals Store away from cigarette smoke, car fumes, dirt and dust Do not store in direct sun light or in a car on a warm day. Select a cool, dry, clean and easily accessible area to store the cookies. Do not place cookie cases or boxes directly on a garage floor. Teenagers especially like to eat cookies!

28 Getting More Cookies Troop Info Here STOP!
Before getting more cookies, double check your inventory. Do you have varieties that are not selling? EXCHANGE those varieties for a variety you need or are currently selling more of. Can I return cookies to the Cupboard? No, cookies can not be returned. Once a Girl has signed for cookies, they are financially responsible for the product. Don’t confuse RETURN with an EXCHANGE. If varieties are available, you can ALWAYS exchange for other varieties. Let’s ALL work together to make sure our troop has “0” packages left with ALL of us on March 17th. If we stay in good communication with each other and attend the weekly turn-in of money and product, we will all be SUCCESSFUL!
