2 MERCANTILISM (3.2) An economic policy in which nations tried to gain wealth by controlling trade and establishing colonies.

3 CASH CROPS (3.2) A crop, such as tobacco, sugar, and cotton, raised in large quantities and sold for profit INDIGO TOBACCO COTTON

4 CHARTER (3.2) A formal document issued by the king that outlined a colony’s geographic boundaries and specified how it would be governed.

5 DEMOCRATIC (3.2) Ruled by the people.
In a democracy; the power to govern belongs to the people

6 MAYFLOWER COMPACT (3.3) An agreement that Pilgrims wrote and signed describing how they would govern themselves in America. It is considered the first formal written form of government in the New World.

7 SLAVE TRADE (3.4) The business of capturing, transporting, and selling people as slaves.
