3 The Book Thief Turn to page 336. We’re going to read to page 346, and then you’ll read and annotate pages on your own. As we read: Make sure you’re paying attention and annotating as we go! It will help you remember what’s happening.  As you read: Don’t forget to annotate! You will need at least one well-thought out, 2+ sentence annotation per page

4 Standover Man Project For the next four class periods, we’re going to work on a project that asks you to create a story similar to Max’s Standover Man. Before we start writing our own, we’re going to look back at Max’s story and see what makes it tick. With your group, with a partner, or by yourselves, take a few minutes to read back through The Standover Man (pgs ). Once you’ve read through the story, discuss questions #1-4 with your groups and write down your responses to each.

5 Standover Man Project Individually, respond to #5 and #6 on your own.
If you can’t think of a good theme/lesson/message, think about something important that’s happened to you. A death, a birth, a friend gained or lost, a time when you found yourself having to change or adapt to a situation… In most of these events, a lesson can be found. 5. Reflect on yourself: What is a theme, message, or lesson you have experienced in your life that is important to you? 6. Explain how you have learned this message – what has happened in your life that relates to your chosen message or theme?

6 Standover Man Project IXL: M.3 and M.4
Product: Write and illustrate your own story similar in style to The Standover Man. First, choose a theme or a message that you want to share from your own life. Next, write a simple story to go along with it, and draw accompanying pictures in your own unique style. Your version should be similar in length to The Standover Man (200 words minimum). You should also include at least 10 pictures (while they don’t have to be colored, they should not be in pencil.). It should be neat, and your words should have depth. Rubric: Length: 200 words minimum ____/10 points Pictures: 10 minimum pictures ____/20 points Message/Theme: is evident and ____/30 points clearly important to the reader
