1 Welcome to 3rd Grade! September 13, 2018 Ms. Kilgore

2 Ms. Kilgore’s Family

3 About Ms. Kilgore I have my BA in Elementary Education with endorsements in English Language Arts & Math. This is my 6th year teaching at Hamlin (4th year teaching 3rd grade!) and I love it! Before working at Hamlin I worked as a gymnastics coach and dance instructor.

4 What I Believe as a Teacher…
I love to have fun as a teacher and I know that your child will have fun learning in 3rd grade! I believe strongly in a growth mindset in learning, and will make sure that your children pushes themselves to have pride in excellence! I believe every child has potential, talents, and value. I believe every child simply needs to find their passion, and pursue it. I love being a teacher and I promise to always treat your child the way that I would want my future children to be treated in their classrooms!

5 Daily Materials Student Planner Purple Homework Folders
Bring to school & back home daily Please check and sign your child’s planner daily. Students write a “snapshot” of we did in each subject area Homework assignments are circled Purple Homework Folders Bring to school & back home daily Students will bring home homework, notes for you, school information, graded work, etc. Please remove papers daily.

6 Arrival Thank you! 8:05 Bell Rings 8:10 School Begins
Please make it a priority to have your child in school each day on time. Arriving late to school may be your child missing important third grade learning. Students are required to wait in the designated lines until the bell rings. Thank you!

7 Healthy Snacks Please send a healthy nut-free snack to school daily.
Fruits & vegetables are best! Snacks are checked due to allergies. When possible, do not pack your child’s snack with his/her lunch. Send in any utensils needed Your child may bring a water bottle to school. Water only! Thank you!

8 It is my job to keep your children SAFE at all times!
Dismissal If there is a change in your child’s dismissal procedure, please send your child with a note, or send an to me early in the day. I am generally unable to access my or school voic from 12:30 until the end of the day. If a change occurs later in the day, please call the office and leave a message with our school secretary. It is my job to keep your children SAFE at all times!

9 Specials Schedule Monday: Music/Gym: 9:40-10:40
Tuesday: Chinese 8:30-9:10; Art 9:40-10:40 Wednesday: Music/Gym: 9:40-10:40 Thursday: Library: 9:40-10:40 Friday: None Please return library books each week! Your child MUST wear gym shoes to participate in gym!

10 Classroom Policies Birthday Treats
No food treats allowed. Students have brought in a book or t-shirt that friends have signed; shared a favorite book with the class; brought in a small goody for classmates (pencils, erasers, etc.). Party Invitations Students are not allowed to hand out party invitations at school.

11 Homework 3rd graders will usually have homework each night. 3rd graders need practice! Homework includes: Reading 20 minutes (daily) Spelling practice (weekly) Math Home-Link/worksheet Homework is due the next day unless otherwise noted in the student planner.

12 Grading & Missing Work Policies
Grading Procedures Grades: 90-100% √ 80-89% √ 3 70-79% √- 2 69% or below 1 Missing Work Missing assignments are recorded. If a child has 3 missing assignments, he/she is required to use indoor break time to complete missing work. HOMEWORK SHOULD NEVER BE A BATTLE! If your child is struggling to complete work, please SIGN the paper and have him/her BRING IT TO ME in the morning!

13 Class Dojo Earn points by demonstrating positive behaviors in the school Lose points by demonstrating negative behaviors in the school Logical consequences Class Dojo is tied to Classroom Economy

14 Classroom Economy How It Works:
Student designed currency to use in Class Store Students choose from a variety of jobs All job responsibilities must be completed to earn full salary Higher salary = more responsibilities Bi-weekly pay periods Pay Check = salary + Dojo points

15 Class Store Last week of each month
Runs September through June (May/June combined) Final Class Store Summer passes Lunch Dance Gymnastics Summer passes are only offered at our final class store

18 Writing Writing is a way to communicate feelings opinions, memories, and information in their own unique way. Tips for successful writing in 3rd grade Practice spelling Encourage opportunities at home for real writing

19 Spelling 3 differentiated spelling lists
Groups are flexible and are based on a specialized spelling inventory and daily writing Homework is given on Monday and is due on Friday. Activities must be attached or a parent signature is required on the homework sheet. Bonus words are not given ahead of time

We promise to smile everyday! We promise to be fair and give every child what they need. We promise to listen with our hearts. We promise to let our silly sides show. We promise to make learning awesome in 3rd grade!
