2 Questions to Consider What are contending loyalties?
What challenges arise from having contending nationalist loyalties? What challenges arise from having contending non- nationalist loyalties? What challenges arise from having contending global loyalties?

3 What is Loyalty? What do we think of when we think of loyalty?
We can be loyal to people or to causes. Where does loyalty to one’s nation fit in? Who are some people we are loyal to? What are some causes we are loyal to? Are there different degrees of loyalty, and how do we determine them?

4 When Loyalties Conflict
What happens when we hold multiple loyalties that come in to conflict? Brainstorm some everyday examples of where our loyalties could come into contention? Do these situations require that these conflicts of loyalty be reconciled? How do we reconcile these contentions?

5 Nationalism and Loyalty
Nationalism requires loyalty. Loyalties to different nationalistic ideals are, therefore, prone to conflict. How might hyphenated identities create conflicts of loyalty? Why is this potential problem particularly relevant to Canada?
