Aims of the lesson

What is a risk /hazard a hazard is anything that may cause harm, such as chemicals, electricity, working from ladders, an open drawer, etc. the risk is the chance, high or low, that somebody could be harmed by these and other hazards, together with an indication of how serious the harm could be.

Risk Assessment Risk assessment is an important step in protecting workers within a business, as well as complying with the law. It helps you focus on the risks that really matter in the workplace A risk assessment is simply a careful examination of what, in your work, could cause harm to people, so that you can weigh up whether you have taken enough precautions or should do more to prevent harm.

It is essential that at any sporting venue, facility or stadium, any hazards that could cause harm to participants, staff or visitors, are identified. The risks must then be dealt with to prevent injuries occurring. It is the responsibility of the owner, manager and coach to work together to assess health and safety hazards and risks.

There are a number of potential health and safety hazards within all sporting environments, which, if not identified and dealt with accordingly could cause serious injury, illness or even death.
