1 Why are these structures impossible?

2 Lesson 1-1: Points, Lines, and Planes
Rigor – To understand the basic terms and postulates of Geometry. Relevance – By understanding the basic terms and postulates, you can communicate effectively and better understand which structural designs are possible or not possible.

3 Complete #1-11 on Foundations of Geometry Worksheet while you watch video B.

4 Postulates vs. Theorems (#12-17)
A ___________________ is an assumption accepted without proof. A ___________________ is a statement we can prove. Postulate: Through any two points, there is one and only one _________________________ . Postulate: Through any three non-collinear points, there is only one unique ______________________ . Postulate: When two planes intersect, they intersect in a ________________________ . Postulate: If two lines intersect, they intersect at a unique _______________________ . Theorem line plane line point

5 Notation Now that you know what these Geometry terms mean, what notation is used to name them? Introduce yourself to a radius partner and complete #18 – 25. Be ready to discuss your answers with the class in 10 minutes. This worksheet belongs in the “notes” section of your binder .

6 All Write Round Robin Part A No one talks
Everyone answers 1 question on scratch paper & passes the paper (1, 2, 3, 4) Go in reverse order to answer the next questions (4, 3, 2, 1) Part B Review and discuss everyone’s answers as a group If corrections need to be made, make them Be ready to share answers with the class

7 Pass out workbooks (aka core books)!
You are being assigned an individual book DO: Put a white label on the spine and write your name on the white label. Leave the workbook in the cabinet for your period, in neat stacks, with the spine facing out. If you need it for homework or studying, you may take it home. DO NOT: Tear out pages from the workbook. Throw the workbook in the cabinet or leave it on your desk or on the floor.
