1780s version:
Favored the ratification of the Constitution and a stronger central government
Key Federalists that advocated the ratification
John Jay, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison (The Federalist Papers)
1790s version:
Political party led by Hamilton

4. Democratic-Republicans
Democrats, Republicans, Jeffersonians
Key people:
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison

5. What Helped Create The Parties?
The founding fathers did not foresee political parties
Not mentioned in the Constitution
Hamilton received much opposition to his financial plan (especially the BUS)
Opposition was led by Jefferson
Eventually, two parties emerged, led by Hamilton and Jefferson
