3 Religion Overview: Judaism
Abraham is considered the founder of this religion. It is monotheistic, worshipping Yahweh. They utilize the Torah as their main text. Similar to Christianity, they utilize the Ten Commandments and believe a higher power will judge.

Monotheistic: Allah Follow the Five Pillars Paying Zakat Hajj or Pilgrimage Five daily prayers Allegiance to one god Fasting during Ramadan Founder is Muhammad Utilize the Koran/Quran as their main text

Monotheistic: God Ten Commandments and use of the Bible are basic beliefs, text Jesus is considered founder of religion.

6 Religion Overview: Hinduism
Developed during the time of Indo-Aryans entering India. Basic beliefs include the Caste System, Karma, and Moksha (Nirvana) Text is the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads Several gods are utilized within this belief structure.

7 Religion Overview: Buddhism
Siddhartha Gautama is the founder. Basic beliefs include the Eightfold Path, Four Noble Truths, and Nirvana. Originated as a philosophy, and moved towards religion. Do not believe in Caste System

8 Renaissance Overview Period of artistic achievement from roughly Famous artists such as Michelangelo and Raphael live during the era. Black Death occurs in 1348. Gutenberg invents Printing Press, spreads literacy.

9 Humanism Erasmus and Petrarch are the main humanist philosophers.
It focuses on human achievement instead of pure religion. Greco-Roman values

14 Reformation Overview Reformation begins with Luther’s 95 Theses, going against indulgences in the Catholic Church. Henry VIII would separate from the Catholic Church to gain an annulment and more control over England. (Anglican Church) Calvinism was against any excessive lifestyle, prohibiting gambling and dancing. Believed in Predestination.

15 Counter-Reformation Catholic Church attempted to gain more support through the Council of Trent, fixing issues within the church. Jesuits, or the Society of Jesus were supporters of the Catholic Church and spread the word worldwide. Major Catholic areas remain in France, Spain, and Italy. Cardinal Richelieu would join Protestant Germany against the Catholic Church in the Thirty Years War, making the conflict political instead of religious.

16 Ottoman and Mughal Empire
The Ottoman Empire takes Constantinople in 1453 CE. Renames the city Istanbul after it is overtaken. Shares religion and architectural aspects with Mughals.

17 Questions 22 and 24 Treaty of Tordesillas-
This was a line dividing newly conquered lands between Portugal and Spain. Encomienda System- System to regulate the Native population in newly conquered lands by Spaniards. Equivalent of slavery.
