1 AP ART TEST

2 THE AP TEST COSTS 93 DOLLARS YOU MUST PAY THIS ON TIME

3 The AP ART TEST CONSISTS OF 3 PARTS
BREADTH QUALITY CONCENTRATION

4 BREADTH=Range of Approaches (Breadth) — 12 digital images | 33
BREADTH=Range of Approaches (Breadth) — 12 digital images | 33.3% of portfolio score Demonstrates understanding of drawing issues through a variety of works. Must not include images of the work included in the Sustained Investigation section.

5 QUALITY=Selected Works (Quality) — 5 actual works (That you have to SEND IN) 33.3% of portfolio score Includes works that exhibit the synthesis of form, technique, and content. Works may come from the Sustained Investigation or Range of Approaches sections, but they do not have to.

6 CONCENTRATION= Sustained Investigation (Concentration) — 12 digital images | 33.3% of portfolio score Create a body of works that demonstrates sustained investigation of a specific visual idea Must not include images of the work included in the Range of Approaches section.

7 Good Ideas for concentration
Good ideas should show a sustained thought on a subject matter. Your concentration should not be the first thought that pops into your head. Here is a brief list that shows what sustained thought looks like: The skeleton/bones put into before and after situations Unusual environments Masks (interpreted–how do we hide?) War (inspired by a VietNam Vet,but grew to all conflicts) Large close‐ups of insects that evolved into very graphic interpretations Light ‐‐‐what is light? Wings–how do we fly? Water theme.Water as metaphor. Fruits-- from their growth on trees through picking, processing, selling and consumption by people

8 Bad ideas for concentrations
These are bad because they do not show sustained thought-- they are a first response, knee jerk kind of solution. Your concentration should show sustained thought- they should show that you have tried to do something different. DO NOT try to show me sadness, depression or suicide by rendering big sloppy reflective tears and dripping blood. DO NOT show me the passage of time with a burned candle, dripping wax. Love should not be expressed with hearts. Happiness should not include balloons, rainbows, etc. Portraits of emotions People who shape me Nature in general Memories in general shocking viewers with the bizarre (I HATE THIS-- ask me about how I feel about puppets) surrealism faces flowers Eyes (OH MY GOSH DO NOT DO THIS OR I WILL RIP MY OWN EYES OUT AND LET YOU DRAW MINE- BLEEDING ON THE TABLE) Family and friends Reflective surfaces Illustration of my inner thoughts (me as a doormat, me as a puppet on a string , blah blah blah) Moments I was happy (never) Self portraits music--(WITH MUSIC NOTES arrrgh!!) Everyday life objects goddess/myth Different cultures (look! oh! they are different from me- but the same!!!) guitars reflections Ideas of beauty (it’s great you love tattoos but if you think this is original, you are wrong) dance

9 DO NOT Submit other people’s work as your own Use a photo on the internet as the basis for your work-- I check and this is a copyright/plagiarism issue Depict a topic that is so complicated/convoluted that no one can understand it without reading your statement Draw a subject matter that you are not good at drawing Fold and roll your work Turn in work on crappy paper Turn in unfinished work Turn in a bunch of stuff from elementary, junior high and high school Copy anime characters- again, it is a copyright issue IF YOU DO ANY OF THESE THINGS YOU WILL FAIL YOUR PORTFOLIO, I WILL BE MEAN AND YOU WILL BE EMBARRASSED. TRUST ME.
