2 Figure 1 Junctional Molecules as Viral Receptors
Junctional adhesion molecule (JAM) is a component of tight junctions and a receptor for reoviruses (Barton et al., 2001 and citations therein). CAR is an entry receptor for coxsackie B virus and adenoviruses and localizes to the basal side of tight junctions (Cohen et al., 2001; Walters et al., 2002 and citations therein). Nectin1 and nectin2 localize with cadherins in adherens junctions and can serve as entry receptors for herpes simplex viruses (reviewed by Spear et al., 2000). Many other proteins are components of the junctional complexes shown but are not identified. Developmental Cell 2002 3, DOI: ( /S (02) )
