1 What is perspective?

2 Which one is correct? The word perspective can have many meanings. Which one of these is correct? the technique or process of representing on a plane or curved surface the spatial relation of objects as they might appear to the eye the appearance to the eye of objects in respect to their relative distance and positions Your way of regarding a situation or outcome. Your personal point of view and outlook on life

3 What does it mean? Your perspective is the way that you see or perceive something. It describes your attitude towards a situation or your point of view. Your perspective on a situation can make a huge impact on the outcome!

4 Where does this word come from?
Perspective has a Latin root meaning "look through" or "perceive," and all the meanings of perspective have something to do with looking. If you observe the world from a dog's perspective, you see through the dog's eyes. In art, perspective gives your drawing the appearance of depth or distance. If we say someone "has perspective," we mean she has a sensible outlook on life

5 Can changing our perspective really make a difference?
Absolutely! If you change your perspective, you change your attitude towards the world. “We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.” ― Charles R. Swindoll

6 For Example… If you make a big mistake and get into trouble, some might look at the situation as being unfair and try to blame someone else. They might say, “It’s not my fault! I hate this!” while pouting and being angry.

7 For example… However, others might own up to their mistake and see it as an opportunity to learn and try to avoid similar mistakes in the future. They might say something like, “Well, it could have been worse. I’m glad I learned my lesson and this won’t happen again”

8 You look at something from a different angle
SEE? A change in your perspective means that you adjust your outlook and attitude towards a situation You look at something from a different angle It can actually affect the outcome of a situation in the future!

9 What is your perspective?
Do you see this glass as half full or half empty?

10 See? By changing your perspective, you can affect your outlook and attitude on problems in life.

11 What is your perspective?
An Optimist sees the glass as half full. They tend to view life positively and always “look on the bright side” “At least I still have half a glass of water!” A Pessimist sees the glass as half empty. They focus on the negative aspects of life and like to complain instead of being grateful for what they have. “Who took my water? Half my water is missing. This is no good to me now!”

12 Another example… For example: If you think that toys corrupt children's minds, then from your perspective a toy store is an evil place.

13 What does it mean? However…from a child’s perspective, the toy store is probably the best place in the whole world!

14 Silly right?...not exactly
It may seem strange to think of a toy store as an evil place, but to some people, that is their perspective and that is their reality. Even though you might disagree with someone, it is still important to respect their individual opinions and perspectives

15 What should I do? The next time you feel unsure about something, try to look at it from a different perspective

16 What should I do? If you are having a disagreement with someone, try to think about the situation from their point of view Do they have a reason to be upset too?

17 Why do these class rules exist?
What should I do? If you are having trouble with a teacher or a class, try to change your perspective think about it from the teacher’s perspective. Why do these class rules exist?

18 Remember…it could be worse!
What should I do? If you feel discouraged, overwhelmed or hopeless, change your perspective and try to remember all of the good things in your life! Remember…it could be worse!

19 Remember to think about this question
How can one’s perspective cause him/her to succeed or fail?
