2 On the Offensive Russia pulls out of war, 1917, due to Russian Communist Revolution Germans now send all troops to France, Americans arrive just in time to stop German advance into France July/August help win Battle of the Marne War is now in allies favor Nov 3, 1918, AH surrenders Nov 9, 1918, Kaiser Wilhelm (ruler of Germany is off the throne) Nov 11, 1918 (11pm) War is Over Germany surrenders

3 Fourteen Points Even before WWI is over Wilson creates his plan for peace, called 14 points Presents it to Congress Jan 18, 1918

4 The Plan: 1. No secret treaties among nations 2. Freedom of the Seas
3. Lower Tariffs among nations 4. Reduce guns (arms) 5. Make colonial policies in interest of colony 6-13, boundary changes 14. League of Nations (group of nations that work together to promote international peace)

Paris, December 1918 David Lloyd George (PM of GB) Georges Clemenceau (Fr) Vittorio Orlando (Italy) Woodrow Wilson (US) Jan 1919-Treaty of Versailles Sets up new nations (Poland, Czech, Yugo) and shifts boundaries GB and US colonies made out of Ottoman Empire (Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine) Demiliteraize Germany Alsace-Lorraine back to France Germany pay reparations Germany sign war guilt clause Germany loses colonial holdings GERMANY VERY MAD AND UPSET, CAUSE OF WWII

7 Rejection of Treaty by US
Congress dislikes treaty, especially League of Nations Opposition in Senate is led by Henry Cabot Lodge Doesn’t like the idea of alliances feels it could get us into another world war Wilson goes on campaign Sept 1919 to get support for Treaty Oct 2, 1919 Wilson suffers from a stroke, does not die but unable to continue work Senate rejects treaty in 1919 US NEVER SIGNS T OF V!
