2 Meet the Teacher Mrs. Burkett Holly Burkett
B.S. in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from University of Central Missouri Teacher since 2002 Holly Burkett Married to Brian Burkett in 2002 2 children- Bailey and Brevan 1 dog- Braeghan (rhymes with Megan) Has lived in Missouri, New Mexica, Texas, and Arkansas. Mrs. Burkett & Holly Burkett Loves working with children Knows that all children can learn Will do anything and everything to help your child meet with success Will care about your child as if he/she were my own All text can be changed on these slides. 3 Take-Home Binder Take home folders include: Daily behavior chart
Baggie for AR book Folder for papers Bring RIGHT back pocket for notes, lunch money etc. Graded papers As a parent you will: Initial behavior chart daily Make sure AR book is read and returned daily Check folder for student papers daily Place all money / notes in bring RIGHT back pocket Include your class rules on this slide

4 Behavior Management Daily behavior will be recorded daily on chart in take home binder. During school the following behavior plan is used: Redirect student on appropriate behavior Send to safe seat if inappropriate behavior continues so student can regroup Fill out think sheet if needed for parent to sign and return Send to buddy room with think sheet if student can not stop inappropriate behavior Explain your method of managing behavior. Do you use a clip chart? Card pulling system? Something else? Include a picture if you can!

5 Accelerated Reader (AR)
Everyday your child will bring home a reading book that is on his/her reading level. Please have them read and reread for fluency and comprehension. They will take a quiz over the book the next day. As they continue to read, their level will increase. Our goal for your child is to become an independent reader and to develop a life-long love of reading. Explain what students will be required to learn/do in reading this year. You might want to talk about Daily 5/Literacy Centers/Workstations if you use them in your classroom. In fact, you might want to duplicate this slide and add your center information to a separate slide.

Reader’s Workshop Math Workshop Writer’s Workshop Cooperative learning Specials- P.E., Music, Library, Art Computers Fun learning games Explain what students will be required to learn/do in reading this year. 7 Grading 1= I have a bike. (unable to ride and need lots of assistance)
When looking at your child’s grades, use this analogy: Riding My Bike 1= I have a bike. (unable to ride and need lots of assistance) 2= I can ride my bike with training wheels. (need help) 3= I can ride my bike down the street.( can ride but still fall off) 4= I can ride trails and race on my bike. ( ride without falling off at all) Our goal is to reach a 4 by the end of the year. Use this slide to explain grading procedures, progress report and report card information.
