What do we find Jesus talking to His disciples about?
What state are the disciples in?
Hearing of rejection and persecution by the world
Grief-stricken as Jesus is going away from them

Look for and identify three uses of language we could so easily miss. What are they?
An exchange – I go away so the Comforter can come
Cause and effect – it’s to your advantage that I go
Repetition – Comforter ‘comes to you’

Convicts the world of

He will convict the world of:
Sin – John 16:9; John 15:22, 24
Why?
They did not believe all the evidence given
Righteousness – John 16:10; Acts 3:14, Acts 17:31
They disowned the Righteous One, murdering Him
Judgement –John 16:11; John 12:31
The ruler of this world will be cast out

Who convicts the world?
The Holy Spirit when He comes to you.
His holiness will again be visible in His people.
This is the witness of Christ by the Holy Spirit through His people to the world
Jesus is the only One in ministry.
It is His ministry. I only take part in it

When the Holy Spirit comes to you, what will
He do? John 16:13
Guide you into all truth (Jesus). We do not
possess the truth.
Not speak His own words, only those that He hears from Jesus and Father
Guide us
God uses the Holy Spirit to communicate His love to the world. We are to work together as one body.
Single biggest obstacle – desire to stubbornly go it alone.

Perfected in Unity - can only happen in a body eg believers together
So that the world may believe and know that You have sent me
That the world may know that You have loved them

To be strengthened through the Holy Spirit in the inner person
Christ dwelling in us through faith
Rooted and grounded in LOVE (God is love)
We will understand and
know God’s love
Be filled full of GOD

If we are filled full of God what will we be
doing?
Loving the unlovely
Forgiving the unforgiveable
Reconciling the irreconcilable
Walking in the shoes of others without judgment
Walking in the shoes of others with compassion
Ceasing all judgement of others
Being seen as approachable by sinners
Having the mind of God, seeing others through His eyes.

The leaven of truth works secretly, silently, steadily, to transform the soul. The natural inclinations are softened and subdued. New thoughts, new feelings, new motives, are implanted. A new standard of character is set up,--the life of Christ. The mind is changed; the faculties are aroused to action in new lines. Man is not endowed with new faculties, but the faculties he has are sanctified. The conscience is awakened.

DAILY come to the cross with thanks and praise for Jesus’ sacrifice and what it means to us who have come back from the dead.
DAILY put on the mind of Christ which is allowing Christ to live in us through the Holy Spirit.

This is the only reason for the existence of an SDA Church in any community
