2 The Imperative of Unity
3, The Cold Facts

3 Unity is an Imperative To walk to the praise of His glory
To show the wisdom of God to rulers and authorities To walk worthy of the invitation to be His rich and glorious inheritance

4 [1] I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, [2] with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, [3] eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1-6 ESV)

5 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (John 1:17 ESV) God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24 ESV)

6 … and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free
… and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32 ESV) Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? (John 8:46 ESV)

7 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 ESV) Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. (John 17:17 ESV)

8 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV)

9 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, [21] that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:20-21 ESV)

[3] eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1-6 ESV) …But not on them all

14 [3] eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace
[3] eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1-6 ESV) There are seven ONES

15 A body acts according to it’s head
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV) A body acts according to it’s head …the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. (Ephesians 4:16 ESV)

16 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV) For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. (Ephesians 5:23)

17 …if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. [14] For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. [15] For you …have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8;13-15) There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV)

18 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV) [13] For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit* (1 Corinthians 12:13 ESV)

19 [26] Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness
[26] Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. [27] And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God (Romans 8:26-27 ESV)

20 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV) To become His inheritance To glorify His name To manifest God’s wisdom to rulers and authorities To see God and fellowship with Him

21 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV) And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, [23] which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. (Ephesians 1:22-23 ESV)

22 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV) Not a subjective individual faith, but an objective body of truth

23 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3 ESV)

24 They only were hearing it said, “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” (Galatians 1:23 ESV) Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, (Philippians 1:25 ESV)

25 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister. (Colossians 1:23 ESV) [7] rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:7 ESV)

26 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister. (Colossians 1:23 ESV) [7] rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:7 ESV)

27 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV) Not a subjective individual faith, but an objective body of truth Not whatever one believes in his heart, not different from person to person

28 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV) The one from the beginning The one commanded The one with understanding The one that buries That one that has a “like” figure

29 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV)

30 [24] The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, [25] nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. [26] And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, (Acts 17:24-26 ESV)

31 [28] for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring. (Acts 17:28 ESV)

32 We CANNOT have unity without ALL of these seven ONES
One body One Spirit One hope One Lord One faith One baptism One God
