The people and projects we fund will:
Take the initiative and show clearly how they will make a difference in children and young people’s lives.
Address the challenges the children and young people face, build their skills and resilience, empower them and extend their choices in life.
Involve children and young people in the design, delivery and evaluation of their work.
Be keen to keep learning about their work so that their ability to make a difference in children and young people’s lives can keep on improving.

Two stage application process.
Initial application stage means we can decline applications with low prospects of success at an early stage.
If successful at initial application stage - invited to make a full application to be completed within one month.
Decision making will focus on outcomes for children and young people, and consider knowledge and learning

7. Who we fund
Projects that make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
Not-for-profit organisations.
Eligible governance.
Working with disadvantaged children.
Children and Young People aged 0-18
Explain:
Organizations needs constitution / 3 unrelated trustees
Describe categories of disadvantage
Give disadvantage % - generally should be 70-80% or more (exceptions for inclusion projects).

8. What do we mean by disadvantage?
We define disadvantage as:
• Illness, distress, abuse or neglect
• Any kind of disability
• Behavioural or psychological difficulties
• Living in poverty or situations of deprivation
We expect that the significant majority of children to benefit from a grant application are disadvantaged. When applying you need to tell us about the children and young people your project is working with and describe how they are disadvantaged.
Significant majority – we value that children and young people should integrate, we promote inclusion however we need you to demonstrate that a significant majority are facing disadvantage.

10. The Difference You Make – What are We Looking For?
What do you want the 'after picture' to look like for the children and young people who have attended your project?
How will their lives have improved? eg -
Improved self esteem/confidence
Better communication skills
More positive family relationships
Improved health and well-being
Most projects can think of lots of ways they change lives – but what are the biggest / most important?
Making these differences will be the reason you are running your project.

14. Emergency Essentials Programme
The aim of the BBC Children in Need’s Emergency Essentials Programme is to help those children and young people affected by poverty that are in the most desperate need. Grants are designed to help ensure that children who are experiencing very difficult circumstances where their safety, health or development are at risk, still have their basic material needs met.
Referral by a third party (like yourselves)
Quick turn around
Money is not paid directly to the family, they will take delivery of the item(s) requested for them or arrangements are made to pay to the organisation applying.
£2million per year is awarded to Buttle UK to administrate on our behalf.
Oven to cook a family meal, washing machine to clean clothes, a bed or mattress to sleep on, curtains to hang at the window.
Can not help when there is a clear statutory responsibility because the child is in care, being rehabilitated at home, subject to a child protection plan or wjhere there is any other clear statutory responsibility.
