Thunderstorms By: Max, Andrea, Jarett, Jeff, Taylor, Channing and Jiyoo

2 Introduction Boom, crash, pow! What was that sound? That was a thunderstorm. Today, that is what you will be learning about. You will learn how to be safe and how to prepare. You’ll need important materials and a safe spot in your house. Prepare to get blown away by reading this!

3 How does it form Unstable air goes to clouds which makes moisture on clouds which, will form fronts which, makes a lefe so it forms a thunderstorm!

4 How to prepare If you see a cumulonimbus cloud or hear thunder than a thunderstorm is near. Here are some things you need to prepare in a thunderstorm. You should have a first aid kit incase of an emergency and you should have a radio and flashlight incase power goes out. Incase of a severe thunderstorm, you also should buy bottled water and food.

5 How to stay safe during the storm
When you see a cumulonimbus cloud or hear thunder go home and turn on the weather channel. If they say a thunderstorm is near do these steps. Turn off all the electricity and avoid water and metal and find a room with no windows, get your supplies and stay in the room. Then, listen to your battery operated radio and wait until it says the storm is over.

6 What to do outside Say when you are outside and a thunderstorm occurs what do you do? Try to find a ditch or something lower. Avoid trees when outside in the middle of a thunderstorm. Don’t be higher than your surroundings. When you’re in a city or town, try to get into a small building. When you’re on a hill or high ground, try to get as low as possible.

7 What to avoid You’re probably wondering what not to touch during a thunderstorm. Tv, IPod , cell phone? Nope not at all. Why? Because its electricity! Why? Because lightning loves electricity it also loves metal, water, glass and trees. The reason you shouldn’t be near trees is because the electricity heats sap and it makes it explode! It also can shock the roots and if you’re on them, you can get shocked.

8 How to prepare at Potowmack
Don’t drink water from the water fountain. Don’t go outside in a thunderstorm. If lightning strikes a tree and there’s a fire do your fire drill . If there is a severe thunderstorm and there is a tornado do your drill silently.

9  FUN FACTS  The Empire State Building is struck by lightning 25 times a year Ray Sullivan got struck by lighting 7 times but he has trouble hearing Lightning is six times hotter than the sun Lightning can strike a person with 100,000 bolts Lightning strikes earth about 100 times a second About 1000 thunderstorms are happening right now
