Biomass Energy Anthony Valle & Quincy Stiles

2 What is Biomass? Biomass is organic matter derived from living, or recently living organisms.

3 What’s the main goal? Biomass is a “Carbon Leaning” fuel that gives off a fraction of the carbon emissions of other forms of fossil fuel.

4 How does it impact the world/environment?
Using this renewable resource would help with big problems such as global warming or destruction of the ozone. Environment: Reduction in air pollution and acid rain. A beneficial environmental impact is the recycling of atmospheric CO2. The negative environmental impact is the amount of CO2 removed from the atmosphere by the photosynthesis of biomass becomes less than the amount produced during combustion and energy production.

5 How is it mass produced, delivered or used?
Biomass contains stored energy. That's because plants absorb energy from the sun through the process of photosynthesis. When biomass is burned, this stored energy is released as heat. Burning biomass releases carbon dioxide.

6 Advantages/Disadvantages of Biomass Energy
Biomass used as a fuel reduces need for fossil fuels for the production of heat, steam, and electricity for residential, industrial and agricultural use. Biomass is always available and can be produced as a renewable resource. Carbon Dioxide which is released when Biomass fuel is burned, is taken in by plants. Disadvantages: Land used for energy crops maybe in demand for other purposes, such as faming, conservation, housing, resort or agricultural use. Agricultural wastes will not be available if the basic crop is no longer grown. Some Biomass conversion projects are from animal wastes and are relatively small and therefore are limited.
