3 Description Demolition of existing 1700 ft2 Alcove Bldg.
Construction of new 2250 ft2 Bldg. in ~ same location with 10’ extensions on ends. Laser Room to be Class 100,000 equivalent cleanroom, with certain materials (ceiling tiles, finishes) to be typical of Class 10,000 cleanrooms. Construction of new 300 ft2 “RF Hut” in Klystron Gallery with Temperature Control ± ½ degree F Some cable trays and supports (to support 35 lbs/linear foot). Surface mounted electrical distribution in injector alcove area. Electrical Equipment – New Substation K-10B, 1500 KVA, 12.47K V to 480 V, 3 phase delta/wye (separate subcontract,) Feed from Substation K-10B (separate subcontract) New 2000 Amp Motor Control Center (purchased by SLAC as LLP, installed by S20 general subcontractor) Service for LCLS Sector 20 equipment only (not Sectors 21-30) 5T crane to injector area below

4 Excluded from S20 Conventional Facilities Project
No experimental equipment included in scope of this project. No PPS, laser safety or radiation shielding in scope of this project. Cabling to be designed by SLAC and installed by subcontractors as separate project. Some cable trays (which will be supported by future racks) will be designed by SLAC installed with cabling mentioned above.

9 Schedule Title 2 Construction Package Completed Feb. 22, 2005
Bid and contract with general contractor RFP issued March 22, 2005 Bids received April 14, 2005 Award originally scheduled for May 9, 2005 – dependent upon cost resolution and possible scope modifications Construction Kickoff onsite June 1, 2005 Beneficial Occupancy April, 2006 – Subcontractor bids indicate this is attainable, with up to 2 month award delay Critical Path - Electrical service not available until after accelerator downtime – October 2005

10 Current P3 Schedule

11 Cost Estimate – 1.09.03.01 $1.495M Construction Cost Breakdown
Estimated Construction Cost - $1.495M $1,095,000 construction main subcontract – Bids came in significantly higher $300,000 electrical equipment LLP separate subcontracts – preliminary bids indicate this is a good estimate $100,000 prep, including relocation of CEF pump facility Contingency of 30% has been allocated to construction costs, 40% to SLAC in-house preparation tasks – $2,267,435 total burdened, escalated and with contingency $1.495M Construction Cost Breakdown

12 Challenges Management
SLAC policy changes in the wake of 10/11/04 electrical accident are still being developed. Cost/Schedule Risk Cost estimate based on Jacobs estimate 2/23/05 – Bids came in significantly higher. We are in the process of trying to reconcile. Schedule – Delay in award may result in delay in beneficial occupancy – less time for commissioning of the Drive Laser. Technical Electrical Design Plans Review process at various stages of design Arc-Flash hazard analysis to be performed by SLAC Configuration Management Electrical Working Group

13 ES&H Issues Demolition activities
Asbestos sampling and analysis by SLAC ES&H– none detected. Lead paint sampling and analysis by SLAC ES&H – low (non-hazardous) levels detected. No danger to workers, but debris will be handled by EH&S Waste Management. BAAQMD permit process to be initiated after selection of contractor (ES&H in conjunction with project) Construction activity hazards Managed by SLAC trained UTR. Includes preparation of Pre-work Hazard Analysis and Job Hazard Analysis and Mitigation (JHAM). Subcontractor will be required to staff project with trained personnel and comply with safety requirements Radiation Review of plans by Stan Mao, RPD, and his requests incorporated in design. Hoisting/Rigging Citizens’ Committee and/or Hoisting/Rigging inspector will review the Subcontractor’s Rigging Plan prior to work, and inspect equipment used by Subcontractor at SLAC

14 Progress to Date Title 2 Design package completed 2/22/05 SLAC Reviews
3/3/04 Plan Review – Initial Draft Drawings 8/25/04 Plan Review – 50% Drawings and Basis of Design (BOD). Comments received and incorporated. 11/04/04 Structural Peer Review. Comments received and incorporated. 11/12/04 Plan Review – 100% Drawings, Specs and BOD. 12/3/04 Earthquake Seismic Safety Committee Presentation – Approval Granted 12/15/2004 Safety Overview Committee Presentation 2/1/2005 Fire Safety Committee Presentation 2/15/2005 Electrical Safety Committee Presentation Request for Bids issued 3/22/05 Pre-bid job walks held 3/24/05 and 3/31/05 (4 general contractors and over 55 subcontractor personnel attended job walk) Bids received 4/14/2005 and are being evaluated.

15 Award of Construction Contract Safe Construction Project
Next Steps Price Reconciliation Clarification of uncertain items in SLAC’s bid documents Identification of items which may have been over-specified Identification of scope reduction, if necessary Revised pricing from Subcontractors Award of Construction Contract Safe Construction Project
