4 Box step A movement where 4 steps form a square

5 grapevine A series of steps that move sideways with a side, back, side, front pattern

6 lindy A pattern of movement that connects a chassÉ with a ball change

7 charleston A dance style popularized in the 1920’s. Today it is commonly used to describe a pattern of: touch front, step, touch back, step.

8 Chorus or ensemble The group of people who provide the supporting roles in a musical production

9 company The full cast of a musical production

10 principals The lead actors in a musical production

11 Voice parts Soprano: the high female voices
Alto: the low female voices Tenor: the high male voices Bass: the low male voices

12 pitch The highness or lowness of a note

13 Ballad & up tempo ballad Up tempo
A slow, usually more serious song or vocal selection A faster song or vocal selection

14 sheet music & 16 bars 16 bars:
The desired length of a vocal audition. In most cases, this equals 8 counts of 8 Sheet music: A handwritten or printed form of music notation that uses modern musical symbols

15 Production number A song and dance number within a musical that includes most or all of the cast.

16 Cold readings: Reading aloud from a script or other text with little or no rehearsal, practice or study in advance Script: the written text of a musical production Score: the written music of a musical production Slate: a short introduction given at the beginning of a vocal and/or acting audition

18 Tap vocabulary Step: a walk on the ball of the foot
heel drop: lowering the heel with weight into the floor Toe to the back: a tap of the very tip of the toe with no weight Brush: a hit with the toe tap to the front Brush back: a hit with the toe tap to the side Shuffle: the combination of a brush with a back brush

Heel dig: digging the heel tap into the floor with no weight Stomp: stepping with the full foot flat on the floor Hop: jumping up on one foot and landing on the same foot (no weight transfer) Leap, change or jump: jumping up on one foot and landing on the opposite foot (with weight transfer) Flap: the combination of a brush with a step
