3 October 13th- 17th Week 1 Despair (n)- The feeling of no longer having any hope Chronic (adj)- Something that happens again and again for a long time Supervision (n)- The action of watching over someone of something Refuge (n)- Shelter or protection from danger or trouble Hostility (n) Unfriendly (or hostile) behavior or attitude

4 November 3rd-7th Week 2 Aptitude (n): A natural ability to do something Contradict (v): To deny the truth of something by stating the opposite Exception (n): A person or thing that does not follow a general rule Isolate (v): To remain alone or be completely away from others Faint (adj): Barely there or noticeable Facade (n): The face of a building; the part that looks onto the street

5 November 20th- 25th Week 3 Brutality (n)- Savage physical violence; great cruelty Defiance (n)- Strong disobedience Subjugation (n)- The defeat or control of someone by force Justify (v)- Show or prove that something is right and reasonable Aspiration (n)- Hope of achieving something

6 November 20th- 25th Week 3 Advocate (n)- A person who publicly supports a certain cause. Illiterate (adj)- Unable to read or write. Initiative (n)- An act that helps to improve a difficult situation Empower (v)- Give someone the authority or power to do something Activist (n)- A person actively fighting for a certain cause
