1 10 Minutes of Independent Reading
Check out the book project examples on the side of the room

2 Do Now: Brainstorm a list of 5 or more people who made an impact on your life/childhood 1 minute End

3 Find your 10 o’clock partner
5 minutes Exchange lists. Over the next five minutes, ask your partner the following questions about the people they wrote down (do not answer, just reflect): Can you think of one precise moment when this person became so influential? What does this person remind you of when you think of them? Do you still feel the effects of this person’s impact today? Could you describe the moment this person impacted you in a way that you feel is accurate (not in specific details, but do you remember how you felt?)

4 Go back to your original seat
Based on those questions, star the three people who influenced you the most 1 minute End

5 Night Connection Based on the character you and your group picked in the beginning of class, complete a characterization chart (to refresh what we covered on Wednesday) 10 minutes

6 Using Minor Characters to Create Setting
Reflect: Write a journal entry about how the character your group focused on added to the setting of Auschwitz. 2 minutes End

7 Using Minor Characters to Create Setting
Before you go, look at the list of people you wrote down at the beginning of class and jot down the setting/settings you associate with each person Consider how this list of names could become a cast of characters in your own memoir and reflect on how each character leaves you with a specific feeling—write this feeling/these feelings down next to that person
