Digital transformation is the new normal
Big and Fast Data Virtualization Expanded attack surface Increase in east-west traffic Hybrid Cloud Orchestration and management Workload portability Zero trust model Application Modernization Continuous development | Micro Services | APIs Digital transformation is disrupting business in every industry. Smart organizations are applying technology to build new business models, processes, software, and systems that bring connectivity and visibility into every aspect of their organization. Driving digital transformation in a company is not easy. Line of business leaders are looking to transform their business processes and achieve tangible business outcomes. To do this, they need to collaborate closely with IT leaders to develop the environment, resources, and technology solutions required for digital business For many enterprise this re-evaluation will begin with an in-depth examination of their data centers, which are among their most strategic technology assets. This is the reason that the data center has been arguably the most dynamic hotspot for innovation and activity within the IT ecosystem. The mandate is simple but audacious: today’s data centers have to evolve to into the engines of the digital business.
4
IT operational complexity
Consumer simplicity Technology has changed how we shop, bank, and plan vacations all on our phones or laptops. IT operational complexity Data Centers have to deliver with no room for error or downtime to support these innovations. In our new digital world, applications are the primary interface between businesses and their customers. And we know that new technologies like AI, ML, and IoT are changing the way centers of data are being placed. But as digital interactions become more convenient for us as consumers, they are getting more complex for the IT professionals that have to make it all work. Think about how we shop, how we bank, how we plan our vacations– it’s unbelievable what we can do from a phone or a laptop, but behind the scenes, it’s exponentially complex to make it all a reality.
5
Meeting the demands of business
Time is money Zero downtime Meeting the demands of business In today’s world, the data center has to deliver. There is no room for error or downtime. And in terms of managing an IT environment, time is money. Companies are losing money every time they can’t bring a new application to market fast enough or they experience downtime. Think about how fast you will change to a competitor if their app doesn’t work or is slow to open on your iPhone. Net – net… IT needs to keep up with the pace of the business.
6
The future of IT could be simpler
"By 2022, nearly 40% of operational processes will be self-healing and self-learning – minimizing the need for human intervention or adjustments." IDC 3rd Platform Digital Transformation Prediction self-explanatory But as technology evolves so do possibilities, leveraging machine learning, artificial intelligence and advanced analytics enable you to predict the impact of changes and proactively remediate anomalies.

These advancements are the true pinnacle of technological simplicity created a fully autonomous self-driving, self-healing, and self-protecting infrastructure that continuously keeps your environment in it’s most optimal desired state.

Groundbreaking Service Delivery
The future of computing needs to be easier: so IT admins can focus on strategic work, so developers can focus on innovation. That requires: State of art mgmt – simple, automated, intelligent, secure Cloud-like scalability Software-defined flexibility: each component can be provisioned, operated, and managed through an application programming interface (API). At the base, you need HW and systems that can offer the best performance from Day 0: Well-tuned for core and emerging applications

We can start using machine learning and analytics to take the pressure off IT. We then analyze the data we collect for the systems and combine the insights with automation to make operations far easier. It’s time to do these things and Cisco Intersight is where we begin. We are addressing three significant challenges with Cisco Intersight. Enterprises are implementing distributed applications and distributed infrastructure to support new business services, such as IoT and mobility. The speed and complexity of this rapid change is becoming overwhelming for existing staff to support operations and ensure the performance, reliability and security of the applications and infrastructure. Existing management tools required to support Cisco UCS and HyperFlex as well as existing on premise management tools from other systems vendors are inadequate. They just add to the complexity. As an industry, we still ask customers to build and maintain stacks of software, hardware and appliances to manage their estate. We still ask customers to manage and optimize the environment in day-today operations; to constantly be at the controls making adjustments and scanning ahead to stay out of trouble.

We’ve set the stage for AI Operations
Cisco Intersight Intuitive Simplicity Agility Efficiency Scale Cisco UCS Director Adaptive Traditional Tools Cisco UCS Inflection Point Cloud Managed Infrastructure ML / AI for IT Ops Automated Manual Semi-Automated We also plan to capitalize on a second trend that will drive the next phase of the operational evolution - the use of analytics and machine learning (ML). The use of ML is becoming more pervasive in the data center and in new technology platforms, such as automobiles. Vehicle manufacturers are adopting Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as blind spot monitor, collision warning, etc. These capabilities enhance driver activities, so they are safer and easier. Cisco’s vision is to deliver analytics and machine learning (ML) assisted operations management. This will allow us to automate, augment and continuously enhance daily operations, so they are more efficient and secure. Examples of this new functionality include predictive analytics, proactive guidance, native orchestration, etc. These new functions would provide a new intelligent automation and operational efficiencies. Past Future

Move fast without breaking things
Move fast but don’t break things A large company once said, “move fast and break things”. While this may have been true for developing new features for highly distributed applications. The same is not true for managing the infrastructure that supports them. Moving fast and not breaking things is crucial to ensuring a business operates with high availability for a new “always on” world.

Intent-Based Networking is the future
Cisco Tetration Network Assurance Engine Application-Centric Infrastructure Activation Orchestrate policies and configure systems Translation Capture intent, translate to policy, and check integrity Assurance Continuous verification, insights and visibility, and corrective actions Cisco Data Center Intent-Based Networking Some of you may have heard of Intend Based Networking. This is the evolution of automation moving beyond initial provisioning. So what does that mean…real-time analytics enable you to capture business intent and then translate into IT policies, automation activates those policies across the entire data center and continuously validates the original intent stays in it’s desired state. When we started on this journey of ACI about 4 years ago, we focused on delivering application agility in the data center. We built a policy driven automation framework, our flagship software-defined storage solution, Application-Centric Infrastructure, when combined with our new Network Assurance Engine, turns on the power of intent-based networking. Any changes can be simulated and when pushed out, and immediately validated whether the change was successful and functioning as intended.

This enables a consistent posture across any on-prem and public cloud footprint, at any scale, with deep visibility and analytics into their infrastructure.. No matter where the workload is.. Consistent Network and Policy across clouds Seamless Workload Migration Single Point of Orchestration Secure Automated Connectivity
14
It’s all about the applications
After reaching this point, to truly understand “business intent”, we moved up the stack to create new business insights only understood by working on “the full stack”. Our products have been application centric for sometime and now raised the bar from what you should expect from your infrastructure and how you can deliver new insights to your business.

Workload that manage themselves
Workload Optimization Manager Dynamic Workload Optimization Automatically allocate resources to the workloads that need them the most, Increase infrastructure efficiency Automatically maximize workload density and resource utilization, minimizing Workload Management Automatically place, size, and move workloads while always maintaining Cisco Workload Optimization Manager drives continuous health in distributed data center environments, whether on-premises or in a public cloud. The real‑time decision engine provides automatable actions that adjust infrastructure resources at every layer of the stack to ensure the performance of your applications. It automates workload placement, scaling, and capacity to assure performance while maximizing efficiency. Workload Optimization Manager will track, report, and view trends for compute, storage and database consumption metrics (CPU, memory, IOPs, latency, and Database Transaction Unit (DTU)) across regions and zones. It can project actual cost of workloads by projecting compute, licensing (OS), IP address, and storage costs.
