I will be able to use the academic vocabulary of this region and time appropriately. I will be able to locate the seven continents and four oceans of the world on a map. I will identify the different terms and methods that are used to compartmentalize time. I will explain how historians and archaeologists study history to better understand the world today.

5 Warm-up Questions What is history? What is prehistory?
The study of the past after a written language was developed. What is prehistory? The study of the past prior to the development of a written language.

8 Notebook Layout The First page of your notebook will be set- up in the following format for each unit covered: Page One – Map will be glued in on this page. Unit name at the top: Uncovering the Past Page number at the bottom/center: 1 Map items listed and numbered: The Continents and Oceans Map Items: Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Artic Ocean, North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica.

9 Notebook Layout The second page of your notebook will be set-up in the following format for each unit covered: Page Two – Key Terms at the top of the page. Page number at the bottom/center: 2 List the key terms for the unit down the page leaving enough room to write their definitions after each: history, culture, archaeology, fossil, artifacts, primary source, secondary source, geography, landforms, climate, environment, region, resources, values, and features. Key Terms:  history, culture, archaeology, fossil, artifacts, primary source, secondary source, geography, landforms, climate, environment, region, resources, values, and features.

10 Notebook Layout The third page of your notebook will be set-up in the following format for each unit covered: Page Three – Warm-ups at the top of the page. Page number at the bottom/center: 3 Write the date of each set of warm-up questions along the left red margin line. Write the questions and then the answer to each.

11 Notebook Layout The fourth page and beyond of your notebook will be set-up in the following format for each unit covered: (Daily Pages) Page Four – The topic of discussion goes at the top of the page. (i.e. – Studying History) Page number at the bottom/center: 4 The activities for that day will be written down/placed onto this page. (i.e. notes, handouts, etc…)

14 Why use calendars? Calendars are used to compartmentalize and measure time for humans to better understand the relationship between events. Does every country/culture in the world today use the same calendar? There are many different calendars/timelines used in the world today.

15 Map Practice We are starting with a very simple map test in order for you to learn the system recommended you use to best prepare for and succeed when you take your map tests.
