Nearly all African Americans today are the descendants of people who were enslaved in West or West Central Africa. Over 50% are from West Africa and over 45% are from West Central Africa.

3 The People There are many groups from those areas, but the groups most represented in America are from these areas

4 The Tribes- The largest tribes in these areas include
Yoruba Hausa Igbo Fulbe Akan Ijaw Mandinka Mende Kanuri Songhai Wolof Fon

5 Project In a group of 2-3 people you will research one tribe and find the following information about them Where they are from in Africa, what country it is today. What language they speak there What religion they are today and what they were before the African diaspora in What they traded. What information can you find about pre diaspora culture? (music, art, design, etc) What kind of food do they eat? Clothing, jewelry, facial painting, body adornments or body modifications? What role did they have in the slave trade?

6 Project Your project should include images, maps, and facts about your group. You may do a PowerPoint or google slides. All of you should have your own slides, and your slides should have your initials in the bottom left corner. You will have the period today and the nest to finish your work and turn it in.
