2 Purpose Headings make the business report more accessible to the reader by: Dividing the body into manageable segments Calling attention to the main topics Signaling changes of topics

3 Effective use Use HEADINGS to signal a new topic
Use lower-level Subheads to signal a subtopic within a larger topic Avoid to many headings – clutter the document But too few fail to provide a recognizable structure

4 Style Put titles for main parts of paper in 14 point bold ALL CAPS
Lower-level heads (subtopics) should be 12 point bold Title Case example

5 Figures Label in numerical order all charts, graphs and photos
Include white space above and below the figure But keep the label right under the figure Center the figure and center the label Boldface the entire label In the text call figures by their names

6 Figure 1. Productivity comparisons for two consecutive years

7 Tables Put the label at the top left for charts
Call it a Table, not a figure Table 1. Cost estimates Exercise Equipment Cost Treadmill $697.00 Free Weights $519.00 Eliptical Machines $898.00 Free-Standing Bicycles $435.00 TOTAL $2,549.00

8 Photos Treat as “Figures” Put source in () after label
