Renewable energies in the past

been used for navigation
Windpower has been used for navigation since 2000 B.C.

America wouldn't have been discovered without wind!

A windmill uses wind to produce kinetic energy by means of vanes called sails or blades.

Originally windmills were developed for milling grain producing all sorts of flour. In the course of history windmills were adapted to many other industrial uses, by windpumps and wind turbines.

In addition to wind, waterpower has been used by populations all over the world for centuries.
First of all, they caught energy obtained by the displacement of water caused by tides. Then people discovered that the power of water could move a special wheel (a mill) and produce energy.

A watermill is a structure that uses a water wheel or turbine to drive a mechanical process for the production of for example flour, lumber and fabrics. Watermills

There are two basic types of watermills, one powered by a horizontal waterwheel and the other by a vertical waterwheel via a gearing mechanism.
