1 “Open my eyes, that I may see…”
Psalm 119:18 The 119th Psalm consists of a series of declarations about the Psalmist’s view of and obedience to the wonderful Law of God Examples: (8), “I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do not forsake me utterly!” (11), “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” (24), “Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.” (33), “Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end.” (59), “I thought about my ways, and turned my feet to Your testimonies.” (89), “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” (118), “You reject all those who stray from Your statutes, for their deceit is falsehood.” (127), “Therefore I love Your commandments more than gold, yes, than fine gold!” Etc. etc. etc. Our text) (Psalm 119:18), “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.” We truly need to open our eyes, (develop awareness) of what is around us. The law (which we will address in a moment) is only one of many things we would do well to see. We should pray the Lord to open our eyes that we may see what we ought to see.

2 “Open my eyes, that I may see…”
The Wonders of God’s creation 19:1; 50:6; 97:6; Rom. 1:19-20 (Psalm 19:1), “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” (Psalm 50:6), “Let the heavens declare His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge.” There is no excuse for denying God’s hand in the wonders of our Universe The heavens themselves declare it! (Glory, Power & Righteousness) (Psalm 97:6), “The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory.” Take time to view a sunset – gaze at the stars – ponder the ocean depths/mountain heights – The Almighty is seen in these things! (Romans 1:19-20), “because what may be known of God is manifest in them [unrighteous men], for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse”

3 “Open my eyes, that I may see…”
The Wonders of God’s creation 19:1; 50:6; 97:6; Rom. 1:19-20 The Wonders of God’s law 119:18; Rom. 7:12; 7:7, 3:20; Gal. 2:21 OUR TEXT (Psalm 119:18), “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.” We need to understand the nature, purpose and place of God’s law! What we learn from the law of Moses: Every law of God is holy, righteous and good! (Romans 7:12), “Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.” The Law identifies sin for us! (Romans 7:7), “What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, "You shall not covet.“” (Romans 3:20), “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” The sinner cannot be saved (made righteous) by law (Galatians 2:21), “I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.“ Let us open our eyes to see the truth of God contained in His word.  The words of men will fail, but God’s word abides forever (1 Peter 1:23-25), “having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 24 because "All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, 25 But the word of the Lord endures forever." Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.”

4 “Open my eyes, that I may see…”
The Wonders of God’s creation 19:1; 50:6; 97:6; Rom. 1:19-20 The Wonders of God’s law 119:18; Rom. 7:12; 7:7, 3:20; Gal. 2:21 My Own Sin 51:3; John 9:39-41; 2 Cor. 13:5; 51:7 (Psalm 51:3), “For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.” Until we confess our spiritual blindness, we will not see the Lord’s light of salvation! Example: The Pharisees were arrogant, claiming spiritual sight, but ignorant of the Lord’s efforts to save them… (John 9:39-41), “And Jesus said, " For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.“ 40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?“ 41 Jesus said to them, " If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see. ' Therefore your sin remains.” It takes faith and a humble heart to open our eyes to our own sin! (2 Corinthians 13:5), “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? —unless indeed you are disqualified.” May we open our eyes to the sin in our lives, that we may be cleansed by the Lord! (Maybe look at Psalm 51:1-7)…. (Psalm 51:7), “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”

5 Conclusion Awareness is the key!
Are your eyes open to the things of God? (Acts 26:14-18) (Acts 26:14-18), “And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ' Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads. ' 15 So I said, 'Who are You, Lord? ' And He said, ' I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.”
