2. Support of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Support custodian agencies with information and methodology development for the SGDs
Support workshops to bring together stakeholders engaged in the implementation and monitoring of sustainable development related to the ocean and coasts

3. SDG
Blue Planet has, to date, been primarily focused on supporting UN Environment with the development of the methodology and identification of data sources for SDG This included contributions to the Global Manual on Ocean Statistics produced by UN Environment.

4. SDG
UN Environment also organized a workshop in Paris in September on SDG Christopher Cox stated at the meeting that GEO Blue Planet was one of the primary drivers towards to organization of the workshop. The take home of the meeting is that Blue Planet is going to coordinate space agency efforts for methodology development for coastal eutrophication and marine litter tracking.

5. SDG
Blue Planet Steering Committee members Linwood Pendleton and René Garelleo are planning a workshop in Brest on Plastics in the Ocean in November and exploring the creation of a Blue Planet working group on marine litter.

6. Regional SDG Capacity Building Workshops
Implementing and Monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals in the Caribbean:
The Role of the Ocean
Small Island States Governments Share Information requirements
Requirements matched with existing products and services
Gaps identified and addressed relative to existing products and services
Worked with partners to develop a workshop in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Have identified priority information areas (sargassum, oil spill monitoring) and are working with partners to develop a platform for delivery of information related to these and other regional issues through a web platform and alert system.

Planning a workshop in Cape Verde to address ocean and coastal information in support of identified priorities in the region:

Biodiversity

8. MBON Efforts
Blue Planet and the biodiveirsty arm of the initiative – MBON – are also working to support other SDG 14 indicators.
Target 14.2 (Ecosystems): By 2020, sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts, including by strengthening their resilience, and take action for their restoration in order to achieve healthy and productive oceans.
Target 14.5 (MPAs): By 2020, conserve at least 10 per cent of coastal and marine areas.
Target 14.a (Technology): By 2020, Increase scientific knowledge, develop research capacity and transfer marine technology.

Continue regional capacity building efforts implementation and monitoring of sustainable development related to the ocean and coasts
