2 2015/2016 The Highlights Commissioned and Published research into the future of family learning in libraries “The Experimental Library” More than 500 code clubs in libraries Six steps launched a Learning Pool Module Commissioned and published research into Reader Development Activity across English public libraries Launched the Culture Offer Bump Booster launched on 13 October Engaging libraries funding announced – 14 winning applicants Year 4 evaluation of ‘Reading Well’ – demonstrated reach to 800,000 people And… SCL’s application to ACE for £2m over 4 years to become a Sector Support Organisation was successful!

4 Five Strategic Outcomes
Public Library Services are relevant, well-used services at the heart of communities providing strong benefit to communities and meeting local needs. 2. Public library services are responsive and able to adapt to new opportunities and challenges, using sector-wide test and learn approaches, research, and evidence to inform approaches to service innovation, development and adaptation. 3. The public library leadership and workforce has access to the skills and information they need to respond to changing contexts, deliver high quality service and develop and adapt new services as needed

4. The core offer of public libraries is understood by stakeholders, partners and funders, and this offer is seen as valuable and relevant to the outcomes they wish to achieve, leveraging new partnership opportunities, funding streams and increased investment. 5. SCL is a strong, sustainable sector support organisation which also supports and advocates for the wider sustainability of the sector. We are currently developing SMART objectives for each strategic outcome as well as a detailed activity plan for

7 The Roles The President will be elected in November to support the transition to the new organisation Trustee Board will comprise seven SCL members and four external candidates who will be recruited publicly Sub Committees will oversee the organisation’s financial performance and remuneration strategy for its paid employees Advisory committee will enable us to continue to benefit from the active involvement of the regional chairs, ASCEL and Home Nations representatives Task and Finish Groups will come together as needed to support and deliver specific projects.

8 SCL: A Membership Organisation
SCL has a key role in championing and celebrating good practice while also delivering on a range on Universal Offers The SCL network allows access to new funding opportunities as well as free professional development opportunities Becoming a Sector Support Organisation will enable us to continue to build on the work of our membership, our Universal Offers and our advocacy for public libraries Membership remains the foundation of our organisation, because our membership provide long term sustainability and stability for the organisation

9 Key Dates 16 Oct - First Draft of Business Plan submitted to Arts Council 22 Nov - EGM held where members vote on proposed governance change and President Elect announced 9 Jan - Second draft of Business Plan submitted to Arts Council 31 Jan - Final agreed version of Business Plan submitted 27 Feb - Arts Council issues funding agreement March - Trustees appointed April - CEO in place and Trustee Board take up posts June - New President takes up role

10 Priorities for 2018 Digital and Learning Roadshows October – March 2018 Digital Single Presence Launce of Reader Development on-line training module Research commissioned by ASCEL will develop a new strand of work as part of the Health Offer Launch of new Mental Health list in June 2018 And finally… Begin work to deliver our SSO Action Plan
