Label it “Elements of Drama” This will go on your Table of Contents Write down all of the definitions on the following pages:

4 Drama - A story told in dialogue by performers in front of an audience.
EXAMPLES: You will most likely read these in high school.

5 Types of Drama Comedy Tragedy Happy ending
Features normal characters in funny situations Tragedy Events lead to the downfall of main character Main character can be average person, but could be a person of great significance, like a king

6 Playwright Acts Scenes the author of a drama. segments of a drama

7 Set construction on stage that suggests the time and place of the action (also known as scenery) Props small moveable items that actors use to make their actions look realistic.

8 “Dragonwings” Laurence Yep wrote the novel “Dragonwings.” Read on pg. 648 about his experience of turning it into a drama. What were some of the changes that Yep needed to make between the novel and the play? Read the selection of the novel on pgs

9 Dramatization Parts: Moon Shadow, Miss Whitlaw, Uncle Bright Star, Windrider, Others, Narrator (to read stage directions)

Answer questions 1-3 on pg. 658. When finished, hand in your “class activities” paper and put your “notes” paper in your binder.
