3. 1st and 2nd prompts – text citation
For the poetry and prose prompts, you are expected to use specific examples from the text.
Anytime you quote the text, you need to cite the quote using the line numbers.
Examples:
Robinson describes the cacophonous, “din of hackney-coaches, wagons, carts; / while tinmen’s shops, and noisy trunk-makers, / knife-grinders, coopers, squeaking cork cutters…” to characterize the city as noisy and imply that the sounds are impossible to ignore (10-12).
Desai personifies the mist as, “…gathering speed, sweeping in thicker and thicker, obscuring things in parts – half a hill, then the other half” (35-37).

4. 3rd prompt – How to Analyze a text without…the text
Choose literary elements that do not require text support.
Examples of techniques to avoid: diction, simile, syntax, figurative language
Really, anything that would require a specific example from the text to prove your point is going to leave your essay unsupported.
Examples of elements to consider: characterization, symbolism, point of view, setting.
These are all elements that can be discussed in a bigger picture approach. You still need to use specific details.
The pear tree in Their Eyes Were Watching God would need to be explained in depth with clear explanation of what it symbolizes and how it relates to the “teach and delight” aspect of the prompt.

5. Metacognition – In your RJ
1. What score did you receive on the essay? Are you surprised by this score? Why or why not?
2. Did you fully answer the prompt? If not, what part(s) did you miss?
3. Identify 2 things you could improve on this essay and 1 thing you are proud of.
When you are done, please pick up your multiple choice packet and answer sheet, along with an answer key.
Begin the process of identifying (in the test packet) which questions you answered incorrectly.

6. Multiple Choice
1. Finish the process of identifying the questions you answered incorrectly.
2. Using the answer key question identifiers, count how many questions you missed in each category (comprehension, interpretation, literary technique)
Also, take note of how many missed questions were a result of unknown vocabulary. 
3. Now look at passages 1-4 (questions 1-44) and count how many questions you missed in each one. Combine your numbers from passages 1 & 4 (prose) and 2 &3 (poetry).
Identify which type of passage was the most challenging for you (prose vs. poetry).

7. Multiple Choice Find a partner whose weakness is different from yours.
For the passage that was the most challenging for you: work through each missed question to justify the correct answer and write these justifications in your RJ under your essay metacognition from yesterday.
When you are done, return your test packet, answer sheet, and answer key to my desk.
