14. Goal of the mentor program
To assist in the development of referees throughout the state
To help evaluate the referee to determine the level of games they are comfortable with
To act as a resource for the referees in the town assigned.
To give an objective evaluation of the referee

15. The program right now
Presently we have 26 mentors who work in 33 local associations
Our mentors have an average of over 10 years experience and many were referee coordinators at one time
Mentors can play a key role in the development of a referee

16. Jr Mentor Program
We also have a Jr Mentor Program for individuals who are at least Juniors in High school and up to seniors in College.
Their work as mentors can look very good on resume’s and can be used towards the Community Service requirement for the State and National honor societies as well as individual high school requirements.

Get a great feeling as you see the referee develop
Mentors will continue to have their referee registration paid for them, when they complete 10 on line referee evaluations.

Grade 5
The purpose of the Grade 5 State Referee level is to prepare officials for national certification. U.S. Soccer recommends that these officials be assigned to the most competitive regional events and leagues available. This may include lower level professional matches as appropriate
Certification Requirements
Previous Game Experience: Determined by the State Referee Association
Previous Grade Experience: Minimum 1 Year as a Grade 6 or Above
Training: Pass the Grade 5 State Referee Course
Laws of the Game Test: Pass the National Test
Fitness Test: Pass the Grade 5 Sprint and Interval Tests
Practical Evaluation: Minimum of 3 Passing Assessments

22. What’s New for 2017 State Emeritus
The purpose of the emeritus grades is to allow officials to retire from the game at the highest referee grade they attained when state level or higher. It may not be used to circumvent any registration, certification or recertification requirements mandated by U.S. Soccer or the State Referee Association.
Age: Minimum Age of 45 Years Old
Game count: Officiate at least 10 affiliated matches that are sanctioned either by Soccer RI or RISA, or are played within the boundaries of Rhode Island, or assigned by RI assignor, at least 5 of which are as a referee, at the following level:
Grade 6: Adult (league sanctioned by RISA) amateur or higher

Fitness tests, inservice training, assessments and game counts must be completed by December 31, 2017.
Assessments will continue to be unannounced at 40 minute half games or above.

Any referee who arrives more than 15 minutes late for any instructional event will be denied entry. Any referee who departs prior to the scheduled end of any instructional event will not be credited with attendance.

A referee who registers for an SRC- sponsored in-service training event but does not attend will be assessed a $5 fine.
