Education Requirements IMPACT AND SAFESPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR JR CLUB PERSONNEL 1

IMPACT  IMPACT is the USA Volleyball entry level Coaching Accreditation Program (CAP) coaching course. This course is offered several different times, and through several different formats, throughout the season. Both USAV and the Iowa Region host these courses and all Iowa Region offers are free to our Region’s coaches. 2

IMPACT  All coaches, head and assistant, regardless of age, must hold a current IMPACT certification. There is currently no renewal process; once you complete IMPACT training, it should reflect on your membership card every subsequent year. While refresher courses are encouraged as the course content improves from year to year, it is currently not mandatory to take the course more than once. 3

IMPACT  First year coaches have until February 15 to complete the coursework, though it is highly recommended to have the certification in hand prior to the season’s start.  Please track event calendar as most courses are offered at the beginning of the season. Don’t let these early options slip by. 4

IMPACT  To obtain an IMPACT certification, a coach must attend a IMPACT class.  The Iowa Region hosts these classes for free for our members, and we offer on site/classroom option and a webinar option. This season, we are also adding a few IMPACT Plus course options. IMPACT Plus is an option which includes additional time spent on court training the skills and systems of the game.  USA Volleyball also offers IMPACT in a convenient On Demand online course…for a fee. 5

IMPACT  To register for our Iowa Region options, both IMPACT and IMPACT Plus, begin HERE.HERE  To learn more about the USA Volleyball option, begin HERE.HERE. 6

SAFESPORT  SafeSport is an important online training course which focuses on understanding misconduct in sport.  The USOC (United States Olympic Committee) is in the midst of a 5- year roll out plan of this mandatory SafeSport training.  As a member region, the Iowa Region is following the USOC and the USAV guidelines and mandates this course as well. 7

SAFESPORT  Currently, all adults with ties to a junior program are mandated to take this FREE course by February 15. This course currently has no recertification process, though there is a refresher course available.  SafeSport certifications are tied to your Webpoint/USAV membership and also reflective on your membership card.  If you are a new coach and also need IMPACT, please know that this certification training IS included in the IMPACT courses USAV hosts (for a fee). The Iowa Region does not include SafeSport in IMPACT—you must also take the stand alone SafeSport course. 8

SAFESPORT  Three SafeSport training modules are available:  SafeSport: FREE, ~90 minute online training. Mandatory for all adults which work with a Jr program. Including: coaches, club directors, referees, scorers, volunteer assistants, chaperones, tournament directors, etc.  SafeSport Parent: FREE. ~30 minute online training. Optional training available for our athletes’ parents.  SafeSport Refresher: FREE. ~30 minute online training. Optional refresher course for anyone who has already completed the core SafeSport course. 9

CAP  We offer onsite CAP training approx. once every 18-24 months and we most recently offered a CAP 1 and CAP 2 course in August.  Additional information on the full CAP program opportunities and information regarding upcoming CAP courses can be found HERE.HERE 12
