2. Bullets
Any learning target on the report card that has a bullet means that we did not need to assess that area this quarter.

If your child has already mastered the skill the previous quarter, you will see an M for the remaining quarters.

6. Grades Students will receive a B, P, or M for each learning target.
If your child exceeds an area, it will be noted in the comment section (it is important to note not all areas have an exceeds option). We do not put an E on the report card.
A rubric is used to determine the appropriate grade.

7. Learning Targets Have Many Components
Please note that the learning targets have many components.
In order for your child to receive an M, they must be able to master all components listed under MEETS.

10. Things to Remember
Please remember: Just because your child can complete all of the components for you at home does not mean they are able to perform for us at school. They need to be consistent.
For the second quarter you may see a lot of B’s and P’s. THIS IS EXPECTED as we expect your child to be meeting all learning targets by the end of the year.

11. Letter and Sound Recognition
Any letters and sounds your child is having difficulty identifying will be listed in the box “Letter and Sound Recognition”.
If your child is able to identify all uppercase and lowercase letters, and all of the letter sound requirements, the box will be left empty.
Please note that students need to be able to identify all letter sounds and 3 digraphs (ch, sh, th) in order to receive an M for produces letter sounds.

13. Math
Many changes have been made to the math curriculum but are not yet reflected on the report card (they are in the process of re- doing the report card to reflect these changes).
At November conferences, we sent home a sheet with the changes. If you need an additional copy, please let your child’s teacher know.

14. Math Changes The math changes include:
Counts Orally: counting by 5’s is no longer required.
Recognizes Coins and Determines Value of Several Coins: students must be able to recognize attributes of the coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter) and identify the number of pennies equivalent to a nickel, dime, and quarter (This learning target is not assessed until 3rd quarter).
Identifies Measurement Tools and Makes Comparisons: students will compare two objects using direct comparisons or events (length, height, weight, temperature, volume, and time). Students must also read and interpret a calendar (This learning target is not assessed until 3rd quarter).
Tells Time to the Hour: This learning target does not have any SOL standards tied to it. Therefore, there will be no grade in that box for the entire year.
Models Adding Whole Numbers: students must recognize and describe fluency part-whole relationships for numbers up to 5 and up to 10 (This learning target is not assessed until 4th quarter).
Models Subtracting Whole Numbers: students must model and solve single-step story and picture problems with sums to 10 and differences within 10.

15. Social Science, Science, and Health
Your child will either receive an N for needs improvement or an S for satisfactory for Social Science, Science, and Health.
If your child received an N, it is best for you to work on this area with your child. If you would like specifics, please contact your child’s teacher.

16. Characteristics of Learning
Your child will receive an N for needs improvement or an S for satisfactory for the following characteristics of learning:
Works independently
Listens attentively
Stays on task
Follows school and classroom rules
Follows directions
Shows respect for others, self, and property

17. Attendance
Your child’s attendance will be displayed at the bottom of the first page of the report card.
There will be an X indicating if your child’s attendance or tardies have affected their learning.
Your child’s teacher will also note this in the comment section.

18. Conference
You always have an opportunity to arrange a conference with your child’s teacher throughout the school year.
Since our report cards are sent electronically, you will need to reach out to the teacher via or phone to set up a conference.
