2. Classroom Project
The following slides were completed by students from the Pima Community College Adult Education Family Literacy Program, Ocotillo Learning Center Site. The students answered the following prompt: Why are you continuing your education through the Family Literacy Program? They also selected and inserted a photograph into their narrative to showcase their learning and the purpose of their participation in the integrated family literacy program.

I am studying because education is very important, especially learning English. I am learning to use computers, too. The main reason I am here is to excel.

I’m studying in Family Literacy to help my kids. I like English, and I want to learn for my success. I need to speak and communicate with the people at the supermarket and other places. Learning English will give me more opportunities.

I decided to continue my education for self improvement, because I want to be a role model for my children and show them that education is important. I am attending the Family Literacy Program because is a way to reach my goals, which are to learn English, get my GED, and in the future start my paralegal assistant studies at Pima Community College.

I am studying with the Family Literacy Program, because I want to learn English. I am studying to help my children with their homework. Family Literacy Program has parenting skills to facilitate better communication with my children. I am studying to have better future.

I decided to continue my education, because I like to help my kids with their homework, because school is totally different from when I was in school. I need to know more in order for me to push my kids to succeed. I need to show them by being an example.
I also decided to come back to school, because I want to get my GED. Family Literacy is giving me the opportunity to reach my goal. I’m very happy and thankful to be here. It is like a dream come true. This program has helped me a lot. I’m learning how to write properly. I am practicing math using MySkillsTutor.
I feel proud of myself when I get home and my kids ask me how was my day at school, and I see that they’re proud of their mom.
Besides of all the above reasons, every single job is requesting to have a high school diploma or a GED. So if without an education there are not opportunities.

I decided to continue my education for personal growth and help my child with her homework in Kindergarten, to improve my English pronunciation . Most importantly, I decided to continue my education to help my child in her future education.

I decided to continue my education to help my children with their homework. I decided to continue my education to have good communication with my children’s teachers and when I have an appointment. I attend Family Literacy to learn more English and know how to write it. I want to learn more English and practice because its my goal. In my near future I will be ready for my citizenship test. Personal achievement and success is very important to me.
